COMMITMENT TO MASONRY:

A History Of Giving - from the Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts

Since 1733, the Grand Lodge has played a significant role in the lives of countless people throughout the Commonwealth and beyond.

By associating with men who share similar values and beliefs, and through the application of our Fraternity’s teachings, men of all backgrounds have prepared for their greatness, in part, because they were Freemasons. And through these men and their lodges, every city and town in our jurisdiction has benefited from the community service and charity of Masons.

Masonry is a brotherhood based upon three basic tenets: Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. Adhering to these principles, THE COMMITMENT TO MASONRY is an historic effort designed to generate financial resources to support current and future charitable and fraternal programs of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts.

Masons from across the Commonwealth, their families, and communities have benefited from our Masonic predecessors. Today, as we strive to grow our numbers, we are also challenged to prepare our Fraternity for our future generations of Masons by leaving them with a sound foundation upon which to work.

To accomplish this, we will engage with all of the lodges in Massachusetts in THE COMMITMENT TO MASONRY. This endeavor seeks to raise funds to benefit the charitable efforts of the Grand Lodge – for today and tomorrow.

THE COMMITMENT is an opportunity for today’s Masons to contribute to the same charitable foundation (Masonic Education & Charity Trust or ME&CT) which was established for us by our forefathers.

A majority of the funds currently being used for Masonic charitable works and fraternal purposes in the Commonwealth were donated more than 75 years ago. Through sound investments and savings, these funds have grown to the point where more than $2 million is now being distributed annually for charitable works, the preservation of our Masonic history and our Masonic Education.

However, current funding levels will not keep up with the ever-increasing costs and demands for our charity.

This campaign seeks to ensure that future generations of Masons will have the means to keep providing relief at even greater levels than we are providing today.
